Course Description: A course for K-12 educators interested in learning strategies for working with students who have experienced trauma. Primary emphasis on this course will be understanding the effect of trauma on school age children, developing and using strategies to reach children in trauma and developing lesson plans on trauma to use in the classroom.

Session One:
1. Independent Reading: Ch 1 Understanding Trauma and the Prevalence of the Not-OK
2. Chapter Summary ( minimum 1 page in length in Google Docs)
3. TED Talk: How Childhood Trauma Affects Health Across a Lifetime (Approximately 16min).
4. Summary Response to TED Talk ( minimum 1 page)
Session Two:
1. Independent Reading: Ch 2: The Manifestation of ACEs in the Classroom
2. Chapter Summary ( minimum 1 page in length in Google Docs)
3. TED Talk: How teachers can help students navigate trauma (Approximately 15 min)
4. Summary Response to TED Talk ( minimum 1 page)
Session Three:
1. Independent Reading : Ch1~Research & Theory and Ch 2 Stress Reduction( use these chapters to begin thinking about your Trauma Sensitive Lesson Plan)
2. TED Talk: How to Fix a Broken School? Lead Fearlessly, Love Hard
3. Summary Response TED Talk ( minimum 1 page)
4. TED Talk: Flipping Your Lid: A Scientific Explanation (Approximately 7 min)
5. Summary Response TED Talk ( minimum 1 page)
Session Four:
1. Independent Reading: Ch 3: Cement Shoes: Staying True to Who You Are
2. Independent Reading: Ch 4: Staying Out of Oz: Remaining Grounded Amid Chaos.
3. TED Talk: Every Kid needs a Champion
4. Summary Response TED Talk ( minimum 1 page)
5. TED Talk: Creative Ways to Get Kids to Thrive in School
6. Summary Response TED Talk ( minimum 1 page)
7. Using all the resources present in Sessions 1-4 create a Trauma Sensitive Lesson plan to use in your classroom. Include all the particulars:
a. Grade Level
b. Objective
c. Procedures
d. Evaluation
